Student Resources

As a new graduate student, you have access to multiple resources to help you throughout your time at App State.

Child Care

The Lucy T. Brock Child Development Center is available for children of all degree-seeking, full-time App State students.

DegreeWorks

DegreeWorks is a web-based tool that allows you and your advisor to monitor your academic progress toward completion of your graduate program. Learn how you can get the most out of DegreeWorks.

Financial Support

If you intend to enroll in five or more hours, you may be eligible to receive federal aid to assist with funding your education. You must submit the FAFSA and accept your offer of admission to be considered. Visit the Office of Student Financial Aid for more information and check out our financial support page for more ways to offset the cost of attendance.

Finding a Job

Graduate assistantships are a great place to start. All full-time, on-campus degree-seeking students are eligible for assistantships within their departments and in other offices on campus. Student employment is available in other areas of the campus as well.

Finding a Place to Live

We recommend if you are taking classes in Boone that you start looking for a place to live as soon as possible after being admitted. There is no on-campus housing for graduate students. Visit our off-campus housing resource and database to begin searching for your residence.

Graduate Student Life

The Graduate School's Graduate Student Life team provides a wide variety of professional development, health and wellness, social networking, and career development offerings throughout the year. Bookmark the GSL events calendar so that you can stay informed about these opportunities available to both Boone campus and online students. Also look for weekly emails from gradschool@appstate.edu for important information about events and deadlines.

Hardware and Software Needs

Visit the University Bookstore on the Boone campus or online for student deals on products from Apple and Dell as well as other accessories.

Library Services

Belk Library has essential information resources and world-class distinctive collections to enrich your research, teaching, and learning. Visit Belk on our Boone campus or online.

Mental Health

The Office of Wellness & Prevention Services has online resources and educational information on addiction, mental health, nutrition, suicide prevention, and other public health topics to help students manage personal concerns during their enrollment.

Office of Disability Resources

If you have a disability and need reasonable accommodations (alternate testing, readers, scribes, etc.) in order to have equal access to the University's courses, programs, and activities, please contact the Office of Disability Resources.

Student Health

The M.S. Shook Student Health Center is the primary care campus health clinic helping meet the needs of App State students on the Boone campus. Online and off-campus students may opt-in to student health services for an additional fee. Contact Student Accounts for more information.

Study Strategies

The Student Learning Center offers online resources for tips and strategies in effective study habits, time management, reading skills and more.

Technology Support

Information Technology Services provides support to online, on-campus and off-campus students.

Textbook Rental Program

The University Bookstore's Textbook Rental Program provides graduate students with access to textbooks and course materials in exchange for a fixed fee per semester. Students may choose to opt out of the program and not be charged the textbook rental fee. In many cases, however, students can save considerably by using the rental option.

Writing Center

The Writing Center offers resources for development in writing at any stage of the writing process. Online consultations are also available.
