Are you interested in adding a second program or certificate or in changing to a different program? Here are your options.
Adding a Minor
If you are currently enrolled in good standing in a master's degree program, you can request to add a minor as follows:
- Meet with the department chair or program director for the graduate program associated with the minor and discuss in advance whether you could be admitted to the program.
- Complete and submit the Add a Program Request form and submit it to the Graduate School.
Adding a Certificate or Second Degree Program
If you are currently enrolled as a graduate student, you can request to add a certificate program or a second degree as follows:
- Students enrolled only in a graduate certificate program are only permitted to add another graduate certificate program.
- Degree-seeking students of any level may add a graduate certificate program.
- A master's degree seeking student may add a second master's degree program provided less than 50% of the current degree program has been completed.
- Meet with the program director for the certificate or degree program you wish to add and discuss in advance whether you could be admitted to the program.
- Complete the online Add a Program Request form and submit it for review.
- If you are eligible, we will then send a formal request for an admission recommendation to the program director for the certificate or degree program you requested to add.
- You may not add a program if you intend to graduate in the term in which the program is added.
- If you are recommended for admission, we will inform you and arrange for the second program to be added to your record effective immediately.
- Note: You must apply for completion of the second program after all requirements are met. This is required even if you have also applied to complete a degree or another certificate program.
Changing to a Different Certificate or Degree Program
If you are currently enrolled in a graduate certificate or degree program, you can request to change to a different program. You can request to change to a different program as follows:
- Certificate students may change certificate programs but may not request to change to degree-seeking.
- A degree-seeking student may request to move into a different program at the same level or below. (A master's student may change to a different master's degree program or to a graduate certificate program.)
- Meet with the program director for the new, proposed program and discuss in advance whether you could be admitted to the program.
- Complete the online Change of Program Request form and submit it.
- If you choose to change programs and your request is approved, you will no longer be enrolled in your current program.
- We will then send a formal request for an admission recommendation to the program director for the new, proposed program.
- If you are recommended for admission, we will inform you and update your enrollment record to reflect the new program effective immediately.
