Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management (MA)

The interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management offers a unique program operated jointly by the Psychology and Management Departments. It requires courses in both departments.

History (MA)

The History Department's graduate program offers students advanced work in History to prepare students for employment in community, junior and technical colleges; secondary schools; museums, archives, and other public venues; business, government or further education.

Geography (MA)

The Graduate degree in geography is designed to provide students with a broad range of academic and professional options. Our program prepares students for either professional opportunities in applied geography and planning, Ph.D. work in geography and planning, or opportunities teaching geography at all educational levels including college.

Kinesiology (MS)

The mission of the exercise science program at Appalachian State University is to prepare qualified professionals for employment in athletics programs, exercise/fitness centers, hospital wellness programs, corporate fitness programs, rehabilitation centers, and allied health areas. Additionally, the program prepares students for advanced study in related fields such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, physical therapy, medicine, chiropractic medicine, and for research.

The program's goals are to accomplish the following objectives:

Engineering Physics (MS)

The Engineering Physics Master's program includes a core of courses in analog and digital electronics, digital system design, IBM PC architecture and interfacing, robotics, design and implementation of microprocessor-based instrumentation, microcontrollers, and laboratory automation. All of the courses have a three-hour lab for related, hands-on, practical application of the course material. A research project is required in one of (or a combination of ) the concentration areas, and is conducted under the supervision of a member of the Department's graduate faculty.

Curriculum Specialist (MA)

Note: On campus program is not open at this time. 

This degree is in compliance with the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requirements leading to North Carolina Licensure as a curriculum-instructional specialist. The degree requires the pre-requisite of a teaching license.

Computer Science (MS)

The Master's program is for students who would like to advance beyond the undergraduate level of professional competence or to prepare for future doctoral study. The curriculum includes a balance between theory and applications and is built around a core of required courses in the basic areas of computer science.
