Position Description:
The Office of Access and Opportunity: Disability Resources (ODR) is seeking a Graduate Assistant for the 2025/2026 academic year. ODR is looking for an organized, personable, and welcoming graduate student to aid in the overall mission of the office. The Disability Resources (ODR) unit of Access & Opportunity is the designated office at Appalachian State University for promoting opportunity, access, and civil rights based on a disability. ODR oversees access needs, applicable University resources/supports, and eligibility of appropriate accommodations (adjustments, auxiliary aids/services and reasonable modifications) based on disability for students and visitors. ODR is also responsible for oversight of accessibility of programs, services and activities; disability compliance requirements; and the facilitation of removing existing disability-related barriers within the built environment. Duties include coordination tasks, projects and assisting with general office administrative responsibilities. This position will meet with students who have requested a Connection Meeting to discuss their disability, history of accommodations, disability-related barriers and challenges experienced, the student request process, disability documentation, and  resources and access at App State.

This role will report directly to an Access Consultant within Disability Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for individuals and clearly communicate office procedures.
  • Utilize a confidential electronic database.
  • Assist with tasks such as scheduling, file maintenance and office projects.
  • Engage in student interactions and meetings.

  • Manage multiple job duties simultaneously.
  • Ability to complete tasks with competing deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong public speaking and ability to deliver educational training.
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve.
  • Available to work at least 4-5 hour continuous shifts on scheduled days as well as occasional after-hours commitments

Hours/Compensation
Compensation is $16.00 per hour.
Up to 20 hours per week within multiple office settings, the office operates Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, within the academic semester. This role may include after hours responsibilities in regards to campus events and presentations.
