About Watauga Residential College
The Watauga Residential College (www.watauga.appstate.edu) is a student and faculty community housed in the Interdisciplinary Studies department that fosters creativity, thoughtfulness, and civic engagement through experiential, inquiry-based learning both in and out of the classroom. Our outcomes include:
- Creating an atmosphere of discovery, fostering awareness and understanding of local issues and of the connections between these and significant global issues
- Blending academic accomplishments with an understanding of the responsibilities of community membership.
- Developing an interdisciplinary curriculum integrates academic, social, cultural, and residential experiences.
Graduate Assistant Expectations
The Graduate Assistant will be paid as an hourly employee in the Interdisciplinary Studies Department. This position will begin immediately and we have a preference for an intern who can attend and participate in student events. Candidates with a driver's license are also preferred. However, this is negotiable and will be discussed during interviews. The Graduate Assistant is expected to be available during Tuesday and Thursday lunches from 12pm-2pm.
- Assist the Residential College Director with planning and executing community events such as student lunches on Tuesday.
- Lead marketing and recruitment efforts throughout the academic year including supporting a student social media person.
- Coordinate prospective student tours and provide program information.
- Support Watauga Residential College faculty and staff in administrative tasks.
- Modify Watauga Residential College's website (Drupal training provided)
- Complete Motor Pool requirements and drive students to off campus class sessions 3x in the fall semester.
$16.67/hr, 20 hours/week
