The Scholars with Diverse Abilities Program (SDAP) is seeking a 20-hour per week graduate assistant for Fall/Spring 2025-26. Please contact hedgessh@appstate.edu by September 25, 2025, with an interest statement, resume, and your current schedule.
SDAP is a university program that provides an inclusive post-secondary education transition program for students 18-25 with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) who would not otherwise be qualified to attend university. Our GAs help us support the SDAP students as they adjust to campus and community life at Appalachian.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing individualized academic and life skill support
- Supporting the teaching of lifeskills in a classroom setting
- Supporting students in achieving their social, health and wellness goals.
- Participating in SDAP Team meetings
- Helping with administrative tasks
This position provides opportunities to develop leadership, collaboration, communication, organizational, administrative, and other skills. This position provides experience in developing skills needed for helping professions such as Social Work, Special Education, Clinical Psychology, Clinical Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, School Counseling,
Communication Sciences, Nursing, etc. Experience working with individuals with IDD or other disabilities is helpful but not required. For more information on the program, see sdap.appstate.edu.
