Position Summary:
The Graduate Assistant for the Ed.D. Doctoral Program will primarily support the doctoral team—mainly including the Program Associate, Dissertation Coach, Associate Director and Director—in event planning, marketing, and digital content creation. While this role may occasionally assist other faculty or staff in the Leadership in Educational Studies department, its focus is on the day-to-day needs of the Ed.D. program. This position is ideal for a highly organized, creative, and proactive graduate student with strong communication skills and exceptional attention to detail. This is a 20-hour-per-week position during the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of events (e.g., recognition ceremonies, information sessions, orientations, annual symposium)
  • Create polished event and marketing materials (e.g., programs, signage, flyers, digital assets)
  • Support outreach and communication with prospective and current students via email, newsletters, and web content
  • Manage and update pages on the EDL website (training provided)
  • Maintain and organize program databases and student records
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support ongoing program operations
  • Provide general administrative support as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Appalachian State University
  • Experience in any of the following: writing, graphic design, marketing, event planning, photography, social media

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional attention to detail; able to catch errors before materials are published or shared
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, resourceful, and able to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Professional, creative, and collaborative
  • Interest in higher education, communications, or related fields
  • Preference given to candidates available for a two-year appointment

Compensation and hours:
20 hours/week for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters
Position begins the first week of Fall 2025
$16.50/hour
Total compensation for the academic year: $9,900.00
