Position Summary:
The Graduate Assistant for Marketing, Communications, Recruitment and Retention will support strategic initiatives to attract, engage, and retain students within the Reich College of Education (RCOE). Working closely with the Director of Communications and the Coordinator of Recruitment, Retention, and Scholarships, the GA will assist in recruitment and outreach efforts, event planning, digital marketing, and content creation. This position is ideal for a highly organized, creative, and self-motivated graduate student with strong communication skills and a passion for education and student success. This is a 20-hour a week position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of recruitment and retention events (e.g., open houses, information sessions, student engagement activities)
  • Support communication with prospective and current students via email, newsletters, social media, and other channels
  • Help manage and update content for the RCOE website and social media platforms
  • Create marketing materials using graphic design and multimedia tools
  • Assist with photography, videography, and editing for promotional and event content
  • Maintain databases and track outreach and communication efforts
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and current students to promote RCOE programs
  • Conduct research to support marketing and engagement strategies
  • Provide general administrative support as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Appalachian State University
  • Experience in graphic design, writing, marketing, photography, videography, and/or event planning


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and collaboratively
  • Professional, creative, and flexible
  • Interest in student affairs, higher education, communications, or related fields
