The Pathways to Resilience Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a solutions-oriented climate literacy initiative at Appalachian State University, one of the nation's leaders in undergraduate climate literacy
education. The QEP works with partners across campus to develop and implement opportunities for students to grow their climate literacy and 'response-ability' both within and beyond the classroom (i.e., through curricular and co-curricular opportunities).

We are seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) to become an engaged member of the QEP team whose overarching goal is to increase student engagement with QEP activities and opportunities. The QEP GA will advance this goal through:

Communicating QEP activities and opportunities to the student body; the GA will:

  • Work with QEP directors to develop and update a plan for communicating QEP curricular and co-curricular opportunities to students across campus
  • Implement plan for communicating QEP curricular and co-curricular opportunities on an ongoing basis to students across campus, including developing and distributing publicity materials and managing QEP social media activity

Organizing student members of the QEP committee; the GA will:

  • Provide leadership for student-led QEP activities
  • Organize and convene the student QEP group(s) on a regular basis
  • Support student QEP group in planning and implementing activities that advance the student body's climate literacy and response-ability
  • Mentor a subset of student QEP group and support their leadership development

Supporting QEP programs as needed; the GA will

  • Assist QEP directors with various aspects of QEP events and programs as needed
  • Conduct other duties supporting QEP goals as assigned by QEP directors

Qualifications
The Pathways to Resilience QEP has ambitious goals and embodies App State's strong commitment to sustainability education. To advance these goals, we seek a GA who has:

  • A basic foundation in climate literacy and a high level of enthusiasm for connecting with students around learning about climate change and climate solutions
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills (e.g., sticking to timelines, attention to detail)
  • Graphic design skills (e.g., in Adobe products or Canva) and social media skills

Benefits to the QEP GA:
Through their work with QEP, this GA will gain valuable experience and develop transferable skills in: climate leadership, program planning/implementation, communication, cross campus collaboration, and mentorship/supervision.

This is a 20 hour per week position, and pay is $26.66 per hour ($16,000 for the academic year). We prefer to hire a GA who can commit to a two-year term.
