TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Overview:

Position Overview:
This position assists the First-Year Seminar/Rhetoric and Composition instructor in all aspects of running our program. On a given day, the graduate assistant might hold writing conferences with students, plan a field trip, lead an evening enrichment lesson, contact students regarding missing work, etc. While the rewards are enormous, this is a fast-paced environment with little downtime.
The position is 20 hours per week. Applicant must be free to attend class with instructor (9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. T/R each semester). The applicant must also be willing to attend out of class events with students whenever possible (these generally include film night, field trip to Grandfather Mountain, and on-campus cultural events).
Position pays $16.67/hr ($5,000 per semester) and runs August 2024 - May 2025
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in a variety of writing situations
- Comfort and eagerness to gently guide young writers
- Experience working with diverse populations
- The candidate must be organized, mature, flexible, hard-working.
- Dedicated to serving this particular group of students
- Have an interest in teaching
