Marketing/Communications Graduate Assistant
Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges
10 Hours/Week, AY 2023-2024

The Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges (ARRC) is a research collaborative designed to advance understanding of regional colleges and their role in creating opportunity. ARRC’s team is spread across multiple institutions, but its administrative home is in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University, and we are an officially-recognized center in the UNC System. Since 2020, ARRC has secured more than $550,000 in external funding and has received significant national attention for our work.

This Graduate Assistant position will provide marketing and communications support to ARRC, which relies heavily on its online presence to engage the public and disseminate our work. All current Appalachian State graduate
students are eligible to apply. This GA will have workspace in the ARRC office, and there are also opportunities to do this work remotely in coordination with ARRC’s Executive Director. The position requires 10 hours per week and comes with a stipend of $15.83/hour ($2,375/semester, maximum). Administratively, this position will report directly to ARRC’s Executive Director, Dr. Andrew Koricich, but this individual will also receive direction and supervision from ARRC’s Director of Public Engagement and Administrative Support Specialist.

Qualifications:

  • Current App State graduate student
  • Comfort with, experience with, and/or willingness to learn basic graphic design and website content development
  • Familiar with leading social media marketing/promotional campaigns
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including editing for academic audiences
  • Ability to collect and synthesize academic literature


Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain social media accounts and promote the work of ARRC through regular postings and activity
  • Assist in maintaining a brand and communication strategy for ARRC
  • Update ARRC website and develop original content
  • Proof/edit written materials and check citations/references
  • Collect and synthesize academic literature
  • Light graphic design work, including the creation of graphics or animations to promote ARRC or its projects on social media
  • Other duties as assigned
