This in‑person Graduate Assistantship provides direct experience working with young children, families, and educators in the Lucy Brock Child Development Lab's NC Pre‑K classroom located at Parkway School. This role
is ideal for graduate students seeking meaningful, hands-on practice in early childhood education, child development, family engagement, and inclusive classroom support. Graduate Assistants must have reliable transportation to Parkway School and availability between 7:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. to support classroom needs.

Hours: up to 20 hours per week (or two students at 10 hours each)

Responsibilities:
This position supports the Parkway NC Pre‑K classroom, a play‑based, inclusive early learning environment serving children ages 3–5, including children with disabilities, developmental delays, and IEPs.

Graduate Assistants will gain experience in:

• Classroom engagement and supervision
• Intentional teaching practices
• Social–emotional support and redirection
• Collaboration with teaching teams
• Play-based learning in a public-school partnership
• Family partnership and communication
• Understanding NC Pre‑K structures and expectations

Graduate Assistants will be responsible for:

• Building relationships with children and families in the Parkway NC Pre‑K classroom
• Supporting daily routines, transitions, and play‑based learning
• Implementing intentional redirection and goal‑oriented interactions
• Collaborating with the lead teaching team to maintain a warm, responsive classroom environment

Qualifications:

• Full-time graduate student at Appalachian State University
• Ability to work within the required 7:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. timeframes
• Reliable transportation to Parkway School
• Strong communication skills and professionalism
• Ability to take initiative and engage with young children professionally and playfully
• Interest in early childhood education, child development, or family engagement
• Willingness to procure an NC DCDEE qualification letter
