The Justice-Query Instructional Materials Center (IMC) seeks a detail-oriented and creative graduate assistant to support its work with teacher preparation programs, PreK–12 curriculum materials, and youth literature programming. The IMC houses a 45,000-item PreK–12 collection that supports the Reich College of Education and serves as a model curriculum materials center. Working closely with IMC faculty and staff, the graduate assistant will support instructional, outreach, and collection initiatives while gaining professional experience in librarianship, teacher education, and youth literature. The position offers opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects that support teaching, learning, and professional development across campus.
Responsibilities
The graduate assistant will work closely with IMC faculty and staff to support the daily work of the Instructional Materials Center.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with educational programming, workshops, and special events.
- Developing instructional resources and communication materials.
- Supporting collection and resource projects.
- Assisting with outreach, marketing, and social media.
- Contributing to research and special projects based on the needs of the IMC and the graduate assistant's interests and experience.
- Projects will vary throughout the year based on the needs of the IMC and the graduate assistant's interests, skills, and professional goals.
Required Qualifications
- Enrollment in a graduate program at Appalachian State University.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Skills and Interests
- Interest in or experience with youth literature, PreK–12 education, or curriculum materials.
- Experience creating instructional, educational, promotional, or digital content.
- Interest in educational programming, outreach, or event planning.
Hours and Compensation
20 hours per week
Compensation is set according to the Graduate School's assistantship guidelines.
