POSITION OVERVIEW
This position will primarily serve as a research assistant for Dr. Ashley Carpenter, Associate Professor of Higher Education. Project topics will
tentatively explore the following topics:

  • Arts-Based Methodologies (including Photovoice and Artifact/Photo-Elicitation)
  • Experiences of Racially Minoritized College Students
  • Joy on College Campuses
  • College Access and Equity

THE GA WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Research and Writing

  • Conduct thorough literature reviews regarding various research projects
  • Design interview protocols or surveys for research projects
  • Collect and analyze data related to projects
  • Prepare articles, reports, and conference presentations for submission
  • Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
  • Draft Institutional Review Board applications for Ethics in Human Research

Logistical Management

  • Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for research projects
  • Manage and respond to project-related email
  • Attend project meetings
  • Monitor project budgets

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a full-time graduate student at Appalachian State University.
  • Ability to work 10 hours per week to fulfill position responsibilities.

POSITION DETAILS AND BENEFITS
Start Date: August 16, 2026
Compensation: $16.50/hour
10 hours per week during the academic year
Opportunity for renewal for the following academic year dependent upon department funding allocation
