POSITION OVERVIEW
This position will primarily serve as a research assistant for Dr. Ashley Carpenter, Associate Professor of Higher Education. Project topics will
tentatively explore the following topics:
- Arts-Based Methodologies (including Photovoice and Artifact/Photo-Elicitation)
- Experiences of Racially Minoritized College Students
- Joy on College Campuses
- College Access and Equity
THE GA WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Research and Writing
- Conduct thorough literature reviews regarding various research projects
- Design interview protocols or surveys for research projects
- Collect and analyze data related to projects
- Prepare articles, reports, and conference presentations for submission
- Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
- Draft Institutional Review Board applications for Ethics in Human Research
Logistical Management
- Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for research projects
- Manage and respond to project-related email
- Attend project meetings
- Monitor project budgets
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a full-time graduate student at Appalachian State University.
- Ability to work 10 hours per week to fulfill position responsibilities.
POSITION DETAILS AND BENEFITS
Start Date: August 16, 2026
Compensation: $16.50/hour
10 hours per week during the academic year
Opportunity for renewal for the following academic year dependent upon department funding allocation
