Graduate Assistant Positions (6)
Full time (20 hours a week) or half time (10 hours a week)
Department of Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education (CLSE)

The Academic Year (AY = Fall 2023 and Spring 2024) assistantships are based on full assistantships (30 weeks at 20 hours average per week = 600 hours
total). AY stipends based on a full assistantship salary of $9,500 will be paid at an hourly rate of $15.83/hour.

THE POSITION
These positions will provide administrative program support to the departmentand faculty in Child Development programs and Lucy Brock Child Development Laboratory Program; Literacy program and Anderson Reading Clinic; and Special Education programs. Claudia Palta in her role as CLSE student support specialist will be the supervisor and contact person for CLSE graduate assistants, once hired.

YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Administration Assistance & Communication

  • Assigned CLSE office hours
  • Check email at least once per day


Special Assignments (May Include)

  • Materials support for faculty
  • Data entry and management for CLSE programs
  • Management of files
  • Scheduled time at Lucy Brock Lab Program
  • Additional tasks may emerge based on interest and experience


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a full-time graduate student at Appalachian State University
  • Enrolled in a Boone campus (in-person) graduate program
  • Ability to work 10 or 20 hours per week to fulfill position responsibilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS

  • Proactive communicator and strong written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently on assigned projects (ex: does not consistently need explicit examples or extensive project details to start a project)
  • Highly organized and ability to effectively manage time

POSITION DETAILS AND BENEFITS

  • Start Date: August 21, 2023
  • 10 or 20 hours per week (applicant should specify preference) during academic year (August-May) excluding universiry breaks and holidays
  • Opportunity for renewal dependent upon department funding allocations
