Description:
Graduate Assistant Positions (2-Summer 2026; 5-Fall 2026)
Full time 20 hours a week or half time 10 hours a week.

Full assistantships (30 weeks at 20 hours average per week = 600 hours total)
Hourly rate of $18/hour in Summer and $16.50/hour in Fall.

THE POSITION
These positions will provide administrative program support to the department and faculty in Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education, including support for the Anderson Reading Clinic and the Special Education Mathematics clinics. Claudia Palta, as CLS student support specialist, will be the supervisor and contact person for CLS graduate assistants.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Administration Assistance & Communication
  • Assigned CLS office hours
  • Checking email at least once per day
  • Special assignments
  • Materials support for faculty
  • Data entry and management
  • Management of files
  • Additional tasks may emerge based on interest and experience

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a full-time graduate student at Appalachian State University.
Ability to work 10 or 20 hours per week in the office to fulfill position responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS
Proactive communicator with strong written communication skills
Ability to take initiative and work independently on assigned projects (ex: does not consistently need explicit examples or extensive project details to start a project)
Highly organized and able to effectively manage time.

POSITION DETAILS AND BENEFITS
Start Date for Summer: May 26
Start Date for Fall: August 17, 2026
10 or 20 hours per week (applicant should specify preference) during the academic year (August-May) excluding holidays and winter and spring breaks
Opportunity for renewal dependent upon department funding allocations
