Program Overview

The Department of Technology and Environmental Design graduate degree programs provide advanced education, research opportunities, and opportunities for field-based work in selected technical areas. The program's aim is to foster philosophies for lifelong professional development and contributions to the field of study, with particular emphasis on the development of sustainable technologies. Our graduate programs build upon the recognized excellence of our undergraduate programs in Appropriate Technology, Building Science, Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology, and Technology Teacher Education.

Program Highlights:

  • Each student constructs a unique program of study that includes a research core; a selection of courses in leadership, entrepreneurship, and advanced computer applications; and a minimum of 12 credit hours within the concentration.
  • The Thesis is optional, but recommended for students who plan to pursue a doctoral degree or who wish to pursue in-depth research on a specific topic.
  • All students are encouraged to participate in activities that will expand their professional network, including a weekly graduate seminar, attendance at conferences, grant writing, and assisting with community development efforts.
  • A variety of graduate assistantships are available that allow students to participate in funded research activities, as instructional assistants, or in administrative support roles.
