Office of Student Success

Type:
Graduate Assistantship
Description:

The Office of Student Success (OSS) is committed to improving the undergraduate experience of all students at Appalachian State University. We provide information about numerous campus resources, study strategies, and other grade improvement opportunities to help students complete their degrees in a timely manner. Graduate Assistants (GAs) in OSS play a very important role in our office initiatives and  outreach. GAs lead academic success workshops, manage faculty referrals for students who are struggling in class, get students connected to academic and personal wellness resources, teach organization and study strategies through academic coaching, and lead our call project outreach efforts. In this position, you will have an active role helping students be successful in a supportive and collaborative work environment, while also learning how an entire network of student support services complement each other in a university setting. OSS GAs work with faculty and staff across campus because we are focused on helping all App State Mountaineers be the very best students they can be.

Compensation and Work Schedule

Graduate Assistants in the Office of Student Success earn $15 per hour and work 20 hours per week, for 15 weeks each Fall and Spring semester (30 weeks total for $9,000). Additional compensation may be available on a limited basis for work with our call projects between semesters. GAs serving in their 2nd year with OSS may receive support of approximately $300 to help in attending a professional conference related to their graduate programs. Work schedules are flexible every semester based on each GA’s preferences and course schedule. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and we are centrally located on App State’s main campus (off Sanford Mall).
